BOOKLIST
Maggie’s misadventures have entertained the gossips of Gideon’s Cove for years, but at 32 she’s getting frustrated with her lack of marital prospects. Accordingly, she embarks on a determined campaign, aided by the new priest in town, who is embarrassed by the crush she has developed on him, and by the members of her family, including her identical twin sister, who are only too eager to see her happily married. Fans of Janet Chapman’s and Marcia Evanick’s Maine-set contemporary romances featuring working-class people with complex lives and family issues will find many of the same elements in Higgins’ second romantic comedy, starring a protagonist narrator who is a charmingly muddled, good-hearted, but impulsive and outspoken woman wanting desperately to settle down with Mr. Right. But since he is nowhere to be seen, she lavishes her attention on good works, her restaurant, her family, and her faithful golden retriever, while ignoring the one man who may just be her perfect match.

NOVELIST
Kristan Higgins writes about the Far North coast of Maine and the rugged but caring people who inhabit it in such a way that I feel I'm there. Catch of the Day is the emotional, wryly self-deprecating first-person narrative of a woman who sees others — including her perfect twin sister — finding love and building families of their own, and wants the same for herself. Unfortunately, Maggie's life never seems to go smoothly — especially where men are involved. In fact, she's pretty much clueless, but she's also very likeable and good-hearted, always volunteering around town to fill her empty hours when she's not hard at work in the diner she took over from her grandfather. She's also engagingly upfront about her motives, and some of the blind dates she recounts are just hilarious. Of course, her perfect match is right in front of her nose all the while, and half the fun for the reader is spotting him before Maggie does and cheering him on as he bumbles his own way through their courtship. Higgins’s books are the perfect mix of women's fiction and romance. With flawed and incredibly funny heroines and a cast of characters that are so real you practically know them. Higgins will have you laughing, crying, laughing again, and smiling so hard your face hurts for the rest of the day.

When your heart needs a smile, when you want to believe in falling in love again, or when you just want to read a great book, grab one by Higgins. You can't go wrong.

FOOLS RUSH IN
BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR, 2006
Dee & Dee Dish.com

If you have not yet read this book, you are missing out! There are very few authors that can pen a debut novel that grabs your heart and won't let go, Higgins is - without a doubt - such an author. Millie's story is one of the best told in contemporary fiction. You will laugh with Millie and you will cry with Millie and you will most definitely cheer for Millie. Every insecurity a woman can have is wrapped up in this amazing woman and her life - a GREAT life - but like most of us, Millie has much to learn about herself before she can see it. Higgins helped me to see my inner Canada Goose, and I will forever be thankful. There are times when a feel good read is what we all need, and this, my dear lovelies, is most definitely a feel good read. Higgins reached deep into every woman's soul and showed some heavy truths in a fantastically funny and touching tale. This book is on my keeper shelf and will remain there for eternity. It will be re-read and loved for years to come.

Where has Kristan Higgins been all my life? FOOLS RUSH IN is a spectacular debut, both funny and poignant, filled with the author’s wry wit and a voice that’s delightfully distinctive and fresh. I laughed and cried right along with heroine Millie Barnes in her search for love, and sighed with contentment when she finally found it in the last place she’d thought to look. Higgins brings the color and character (and characters) of Cape Cod to vivid life, making me feel as if I’ve just enjoyed a week at the shore. FOOLS RUSH IN is a wonderful read

Outstanding! Great Read
This author takes a lighthearted look at what one woman thinks she wants in a man. However, what reality shows has Millie reevaluating her beliefs. Sometimes what we really want is right there under our noses, yet we are too blind to see. If we reach out and take that blind leap of faith, we just might grab on to something wonderful. This is a story well worth reading.

One of the best books I've read in YEARS!!!
By Sara B., Florida

I started Catch of the Day on New Year's day since I had the day off and nothing else to do after an night of celebrating the New year with my friends. I don't even usually like to read books written in 1st person, but I couldn't put it down and finished it by midnight January 1st! I ended up having to stop reading it to do a few things around the house, but kept thinking about it and wanting to get back to it the whole time I was busy. It had awesome characters and was so descriptive that I felt like I was there in Gideon's Cove. It made me laugh out loud and cry out loud too. I enjoyed it so much that I didn't want it to end, and ran out on January 2nd to get Kristan Higgins’s first book, Fools Rush In. I haven't started that one yet, but I have a feeling I'm going to like it just as much, so I am going to have to start reading it when I have some uninterrupted time, or I won't get anything done that I need to! I wholeheartedly recommend Catch of the Day to anyone who's a fan of comtemporary romance novels. Kristan Higgins is going on my favorite author list, after this book. I didn't find anything that I didn't love about it. I especially loved the brooding, quiet, mysterious Malone! I literally got goosebumps when I read his surprising first kiss with Maggie, and then had to go back and re-read the whole scene. I never do that! It's been years since I've had a book that engrossed me into the story this much and affected my emotions so much also. This one is a keeper and I will read it again, I just know it!

Great Read
November 29, 2007
—Maryeff, Northern California

I LOVED this book. Couldn't put it down, and raced right through it. I'll spare the plot summary, since other reviewers did an adequate job of that. I will say why I think this is such a great book. The characters are real. Maggie isn't perfect, neither is Malone. Neither is Fr. Tim for that matter. And while Maggie envies her sisters life, she still loves her dearly. There's a lot of love among her siblings. Also, the book is at times laugh out loud funny (I found myself having to read passages to my husband -- the blind dates were hysterical) and tear-jerker emotional. I really missed the characters after I was finished, which is the perfect way to end a book. I promise you won't be sorry that you picked this book up.

Top notch!
September 22, 2007
— By Dee

Once again, Kristan Higgins has written a wonderful, captivating story of love and laughter, that I couldn't put down. From the very first sentence, I became engrossed in the tale of Maggie and her laughable lovelife. From being publicly dumped by her sweetheart to falling in love with a priest, Maggie navigates the path to true love with an entire town watching (and very often commenting). Maggie learns that love doesn't always come when you want it, or from where you want it, but when you least expect it. This book was FABulous. I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Higgins characters, from the amazing Maggie to the silent Malone, and everyone in between. Like her first novel, "Fools Rush In", this book will be on my shelf for a long time to come, and I will recommend it to everyone I know.

A lighthearted contemporary romance
September 6, 2007
— Harriet Klausner, A reviewer

CATCH OF THE DAY is a lighthearted contemporary romance starring two opposites as she never shuts up (her asides are often witty self-deprecating digs) and he never opens his mouth except to eat. Fans will enjoy their relationship as the eccentric townies are shocked that love blossoms between them.

Wow!
— Patricia Williams, Phoenix, Arizona

As a librarian, I read a wide range of genres for the sake of reader's advisory. However, when I picked up Kristan Higgins's book from the new titles, I thought it would just be another typical "chick lit." Was I ever in for a surprise! While in bed with the flu, Fools Rush In brought me out of my self-imposed depths of misery with bouts of laughter from the great dialogue, developed characters and all around great storyline.

Kudos to Kristan for an outstanding debut novel, and I look forward to many more (even though I don't really read romance.

Best new author
— Krystal, El Paso, TX

What a great start for this wonderful author. I enjoy romantic novels, however, most of them are too perfect and everything just is so fantasized. What I like about this author and about this, her first book, is the fact that the first person character is written wonderfully. You really get to be in Millie Barnes' shoes. Also, the dialogue that she uses is so common and easy to understand. Higgins definitely writes her novels in language that everyone can relate to.

I definitely recommend this book if you like romantic novels and want a fresh twist to the regulars on Harlequin or the like. Can't wait for her next one.

What a tremendous book
— Movie Maven julierb, Duvall, WA

Millie Barnes is about to get everything she ever dreamed of -- or is she? Sometimes what we think we want is not the best thing we could actually get.

As others before have mentioned, I'll be buying anything this author writes. She has the gift of being able to put her reader in her heroine's shoes, to root for that heroine, and write a book that's impossible to put down. I loved it!

This was one of the best romances I’ve read lately. It’s funny and smart with a heroine you have to love. I would buy this and anything else she writes.

Charming and funny romantic comedy
— Tracy Vest, Fairfield, CA

Higgins's first novel is a sweet and romantic comedy told from the protagonist's point of view, which makes for some funny anecdotes and reactions. The sibling rivalry between the seemingly perfect Trish is poignant (though Trish is a hard character to like). And the interactions between father and daughter ring so authentic, that I envisioned my own dad while reading the story. This one is a gem and not to be missed.

Entertaining, lighthearted romantic romp
— Harriet Klausner

FOOLS RUSH IN is an entertaining lighthearted romantic romp starring a likable lead female and a strong realistic support cast. The story line is fun to follow as Millie begins to realize her teen dream is no longer supreme in her heart. Contemporary romance readers who enjoy an escape to the Cape will appreciate this easygoing frolic.

Charming and fun

This lighthearted and funny first novel is an enjoyable read. Author Kristan Higgins does an excellent job bringing the Cape Cod scene to life, and lead character Millie Barnes is very likable and her friends and family form a realistic backdrop. I enjoyed this book very much and hope for many more from this first-time author!

Great book!
— Shelley C, a hopeful romantic

I love this book! I couldn't put it down, it was so funny and I could really relate to Millie! I love how on the first page, the author says 'stalking is innate to the female psyche.' I've totally been there! I didn't find my Sam in the end, but I'm sure I will someday. Kudos to the author for a very enjoyable book!

Great Book
November 13, 2006
— Christina, A reviewer

I picked up this book with 3 others and read the entire thing on a Sunday afternoon. The story was great and the main character Millie was real and not your average 'perfect' romance novel heroine. I've thought about the book all day and think I'll go back and re-read some of the good parts tonight. Highly recommended. I hope the author has more to come.
