A Day in the Life

Updated: Apr 26, 2022

My day thus far has been pretty great. So nice when that happens, isn’t it? Well, the first part was fairly wretched, simply because I had to get up at 4:00 a.m., something I haven’t done since my infant son had to eat every hour and a half. Then, I nearly missed my plane and had to run down to my gate saying, “Hold the plane! I’m Passenger Higgins! I’m coming!” I burst onto the plane with that feeling of triumph and horror— “I made it! Hi, everyone! Sorry if I kept you! But here! I! Am!” They were not impressed.

Then I landed at Dulles Airport, which is flippin’ huge…then again, every airport is huge compared with Bradley, the nearest airport to my house. Onto Boonsboro, MD, through some very beautiful farmland. I ate at a Bob Evans chain restaurant. Very bad for my heart, and very delicious. Then I got to Boonsboro and went to the beautiful Turn the Page Bookstore, which is the home bookstore for the great Nora Roberts, who is gracious and funny and someone I admire tremendously. Made two new friends in Kathryn O’Sullivan and Laura Kaye, saw my beautiful friend Deanna Raybourn; we were new together, and we both won our first RITAs the same year. The signing lasted four hours, and it was so great to see so many readers; I knew quite a few from Facebook, and some were brand-new to me. I also got to hold this beautiful baby (because I begged the mom, and she was wicked nice).

Then, onto Dulles again. I returned my rental car and went into the airport, found my terminal and am sitting here, eating a salad and people-watching. The guy at the next table looks like Jason Bateman. I’m trying not to stare. Called my kids, called McIrish, and soon, I’ll make my way to my gate and board a plane for Atlanta.

Hope to see more of you at the Romance Writers of America National Conference this week! And yes, of course Jill Shalvis and I will post pictures of our time together. : )
