I had the best time at Fulkerson Winery in Dundee, NY, this weekend when they hosted a book signing party for me (and my family) at their beautiful vineyard. Blue Heron is heavily based on Fulkerson: the history, the land, the filthy red truck John Holland drives. ; ) I’m writing the fourth book in the series now, and it was so great to be back. Visiting the place where my books are set is one of the best parts of writing.

Also the fact that I’m not wearing tights…I put my thumb through them minutes before we had to leave for the signing. I was channeling Jill Shalvis.
And so is meeting readers! People came from hours and hours away (I think Ohio was the furthest), and I can’t describe how humbling and thrilling that is. The Dundee Library has a Blue Heron reading group, and that was fantastic, too. We had great wine, a lot of laughs, and I even got to snuggle a baby!
Whether you came from down the street or seven hours away, thank you so, so much!

What is it about a mom on crutches that brings on the giggles? This lady’s story was so funny that I laughed till I cried (and so did her daughter, reliving the fun). I sternly informed my princess that when I fall (and I do), it’s a terribly serious event (cough) and sympathy is the only appropriate response.
